What Do You Call It?
What do you call that gap between waking up and going to bed: TIME? I overheard a 21 year old say that very statement and found myself laughing quite loud. The first thing that came to mind was the phrase time is relative. For the 21 year old, he chooses to spend a fair amount of his time asleep. That’s his priority and choice as it is his time. Some would judge him and say he is wasting his life sleeping. Why should they care, it is his time. Oh did I mention I overheard the statement in a job setting and this person also goes to college and works full time? The idea of sleeping a lot takes on a different complexion when you see that he is working to better himself and get an education doesn’t it?
“Time is the most valuable thing we have as it can’t be replaced.” I wrote that quote some years ago. I still have some that choose to debate be when I use it. “Isn’t your spirituality…family…love…job…etc, the most valuable things you have?” My response: “they are indeed valuable but can you have any of them without time?” It takes time to develop love, spirituality, friendships, job skills, family, etc. We don’t wake up knowing God, wake up with great friends, or wake up loving someone. All of these events take an investment of your time. If I am investing my time, I am investing myself in whatever the subject or situation is. That is my choice. I am using my time right now to write this little essay. I could just as easily not written it or have done something else, but I chose to invest a few minutes of my time and life into writing what is on my mind at this very moment.
What do you call the gap between being born and leaving this earth: YOUR LIFE? Love the gap. Enjoy the gap. Have fun with the gap. It is your gap. There are many like it, but your gap is yours.
I appreciate you being you. Like the way you think and write, and always enjoy your posts!
