Who & When

I heard the tail end of an interview where the following comment was made, “One of the best lessons I’ve learned in life is figuring out who to listen to and when.”  It’s the simple concept of quality instead of quantity.  With all the daily chatter and information overflow, learning to filter who, what, and when we listen is an acquired skill. I am a far better listener than I was in the past, but I still work at being better at it.

We all have inherent filters if we choose to listen to our intuition.  Think about how certain people and conversations make you feel. I know if I am around a drama queen or professional pessimist I feel uncomfortable and find myself looking for an exit strategy.  I know if I am around a genuine and caring person, I can talk to them for hours. Sensing the energy behind words is one of our best filters.

As you go through your day, pay close attention to how you feel during conversations.  The more attention you pay, the better your filter becomes at determining who, what, and when to listen.
