10/9/09 Thought of the Day by Judi Bouchard

Where Are We Going by Judi Bouchard
“Really big ideas scare the living daylights out of most organizations and individuals will go to great lengths not to get too close to them." --Richard Watson, writing on FastCompany.com
Okay everyone, For the last year we would wake up every morning and just expect the wonderful TOD to just show up in our mailbox, but now it is time to give back a little. There are over 100 of us in this group, and I am sure we can all come up with at least one profound thought to add.
We all have wondered how Rodney manages to come up with this insight on a daily basis. It takes a lot of thought effort and self reflection, and it is easy to think that we are to busy to put the time and effort into writing something we think is profound. But take a minute and see what flows. It sounds like a lot of the suggestions will take up so much time- but in reality, it does not- it is changing a routine- waking upin the morning and just do one thing. Smile.
This has been rumbling around in my head the last few weeks. I was driving around town one day and a homeless couple was pushing their grocery cart full of belongings down Westpark. It was with great purpose as if they had somewhere they had to be. They looked to be on mission to somewhere. And all I could think was where are they going- they are homeless. This has stuck with me over the last few weeks and I keep coming back to one thing. Where are any of us going? We move through each day towards an unknown destination with the same determination as the couple with the grocery cart. Their destination is no less important than where we are all going and we are all going somewhere?
Over the last few days there have been references written about a quest to be perfect. We all want to be perfect- but there is no such thing. I think the goal should be- strive to be better. I think that we all put a lot of undo pressure on ourselves to be "perfect." Take a minute and think about where you are going- But also remember this is a journey and come to peace with where you are now. Take time to think about the good things you do each day. Stop beating yourself up for the things you haven't got to yet. Always work towards being the best you can but don't forget to be happy where you are now.
