Thought of the Day 10/6/09

Love ‘em Anyway

“I would rather have eyes that cannot see, ears that cannot hear, lips that cannot speak, than a heart that cannot love.” – Robert Tizon

Ok! So I need to bring some balance back to the TOD after the one yesterday. Based on the large number of emails, maybe the most comments to date on any TOD, yesterday’s was one that was needed by a lot more than just me. Thanks to those that responded with good words. Now what’s really ironic about today’s TOD is that I started writing it two days before I sent out the one yesterday then stopped in the middle of it. It just wasn’t time. Now it is.

I was listening to the iPod the other day and the lyrics from Martina McBride’s song Anyway jumped out at me: “Love ‘em anyway.” I had also just finished a chapter in one my books called The Pillar of the Heart – Let Love Lead. Both the song and the book are talking love in our lives as a whole rather than the traditional thinking of loving your spouse or your family.

When you are giving and getting love, you feel it in your heart and all around you and when it’s missing, you feel it too. Did you know that your emotions can actually be measured? It is called heart rate variability and can be measured with and EKG machine. Look up the Institute of HeartMath if you would like to know more about the science.

There was a time back in my 20’s where I had emotionally shut down and pushed my emotions so far back in my head that I did not even know if they existed anymore. I recall dressing up like the Terminator for a Halloween Party. I remember telling my Mom: “I’m just like the Terminator…I feel nothing…if you don’t feel, you will never get hurt…” Mama looked at me and said: “Rodney, I don’t know who you are anymore, but you are not the son I raised…let me know when he comes back around as I sure don’t like the one I see right now.” Now that was a kick in the pants to hear from my Mama, but that was exactly the kick in the pants I needed to find my emotions again. I had allowed a failed relationship to emotionally shut me down by holding in the hurt, anger, and other assorted feelings, to the point that it impacted my family. Back then, I thought that shutting down and not dealing with it was the right way to do things. I was wrong, but even then, my Mama loved me anyway.

The next time you think about saying you hate my job, hate my boss, hate my husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend/parents/etc., just remember the three little words: love ‘em anyway. I go a step further sometimes when I hear some use the word hate. I ask them a simple question: Do you really? Remember, when you are able to “love ‘em anyway” and without condition, aka Agape’ or God like love, you are most like the good Lord. Conditional love is an ego driven feeling not a God driven feeling. Love is something you give and not something anyone can take. Be generous and “love ‘em anyway.”

Note – For those new to the group, there are four types of love. I can email you the detail if you would it?

Action Item – Take a listen to Martina’s song.

POSITIVE ENERGY AND PRAYERS

Some additional medical issues have come up with my Uncle Steve. Please continue your positive thoughts and prayers for Steve and my Aunt Linda.

CRITTER HELP

A friend of Jen’s sent out the following request. If you can help, please give Beth a call.

Okay, so this is a shameless plea to find a downright adorable, happy-go-lucky and apparently healthy dog find a loving home.

Yesterday, I found the little guy lounging along the roadside on N. Main just east of I-45. He was really excited to see me and greeted me with lots of kisses before jumping into my mini-van.

He had no collar, and I imagine someone dumped him nearby. He's approximately 30 lbs., unneutered and about a year old I would say. His teeth and coat look great. He's a little thin, but I've certainly seen worse. He is great with the kids and was eager to horse around with our elderly poodle mix, who did not feel the same way. So the foundling spent the night in the garage where he slept quietly. No whimpering, barking or howling.
We cannot keep him for a variety of reasons, so unfortunately he'll be going to the SPCA in the next day or two unless I can find him home.

I am posting this as a classified listing as well so that I can attach photographs. If you're interested or know someone who might be, please give me a call at 713-806-0762.
Thanks,Beth

OPPORTUNITIES

Ginger Neal, a friend of Judi Brubaker’s, is looking for a new gig. If you know of anything or can forward to your contacts, it would be greatly appreciated.

Kenneth Greer is also looking for a new IT job in the Houston area. The company he works for in the Wichita Falls area is closing the office. His options are Wisconsin or no job. If you know of anything or can forward to your contacts, it would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone knows of any open positions out there, shoot me a note and maybe we can match some people up. Good things for good people, always!

POSITIVE NEWS

Lil MilestoneToday’s TOD marks page number 350 for the year. Boy! Who would have ever thought I’d have that many words in me. And to be exact, the word count is 150,273 or 822,935 characters.
