I just like um. They make me feel good and warm on the inside. I’m always looking for the next one. No I’m not talking about beer although those make me feel good too. I’m talking about hugs. Everyone knows how important hugs are to me. That’s just how I connect with people.
January 13, 2010 was the last one for me. The last what you ask? It was my last official business meeting as Chairman of the Rodeo Ticket Sales Committee. My three year term as Chairman is up. Now we do have one more official gathering, but that is our awards and wrap up party to celebrate another successful campaign. There was no real big hoopla about being my last year, but I did work the room and gave and received many hugs. I think the funniest and most memorable was from the husband of one of my committee members. As I was walking across the room, he stuck his hand out for a handshake but after seeing everyone else hugging me, he put both arms out and said what the heck. Now that was a spontaneous hug. He had the biggest grin on his face afterwards.
Now here is what is ironic about the term being up too. My committee has watched me grow from the unapproachable, all business, sometimes sarcastic, shake your hand kinda guy to the all smiles, have time for everyone, hugging kind of guy. As I’ve grown, they have grown with and it shows in every interaction now. By me changing my energy, the energy on the entire committee has changed. I had several people tell me they love me last night, and they really do. I put it out there so I’m getting it back. Like the Law of Power # 3 says, I can’t change anyone but myself, but by changing myself, I can inspire others to change too. Change starts with a smile and a hug. Make a change today and hug someone.
