Odds Are In My Favor

Chances Are?

I got a short email from Robin Ellis, Coordinator for the Salute to Our Troops Project, back during the rodeo asking if I would be the Point of Contact (POC) for the Air Force Recruiters and the Special Combat Operations Rappel Team. That short little email has morphed into a life changing experience for me. They are affectionately just known as The Guys now. We know them as Daniel, Jimmy, Robert, Ivan, Nick, Sam, Kenny, and Torrey.

Daniel, Robert, Jimmy, Nick, Sam, and Ivan are some of the most highly trained people in our military today, but to us, they are The Guys. They are a group of patriotic, caring, friendly, kind, and just overall good people. The funny thing is that short of a rappelling event at the rodeo, there is a good chance that our paths would have never crossed. They live in San Antonio, and I live here. They’re in the military, and I’m in the technology industry. I’m 50, and they’re in their 20’s and 30’s. All the demographic people would tell you we would not cross paths yet we did. In less than two months, they have been Houston twice know Nora and David, the Electra Link Group, Johnny, Judi, and Sandra, aka Wild Thing.

This past Friday we had a convoy head up to San Antonio for their squadron picnic at Lackland Air Force Base. We went out later and had a few beers, some darts, and thousands of smiles and laughs. We’re planning another event for next month then other fun things throughout the year. We also talk and text pretty regularly too.

Yet again this is just another example of the wonderful people and experiences I am allowed to enjoy on a daily basis. I still smile and shake my head at how things come together in the universe. I just get excited waiting for the next one. Thanks Guys for the hospitality on Friday and will see y’all in a few weeks.
