My Bad
“I totaled my car: My Bad. Now go buy me another one Dad.” “I dropped my $800 cell phone in the toilet cause I was texting while going to the bathroom: My Bad. Mom, give me your credit card so I can get a new phone.” How about “you totaled your car so now you need to walk, ride your bike, catch a ride or take the bus.” “You ruined your cell phone so how about you just don’t have a cell phone until you get the money to repair or replace it.” Saying My Bad does not release you from your responsibility and ownership of an issue. Patrick and I had that very discussion about how today’s generation believes saying My Bad makes everything go away and gives them a do over. All too often though, you see it all the way down from the thieves in Washington through professional athletes and down into the teenagers. And since no one appears to hold them accountable, the cycle continues.
I believe we have an obligation to call people out when they drop a My Bad. You’re right. It is yours. Now what are you going to do to accept and resolve the issue? It is simple problem solving folks: identify the problem, develop a plan to solve the problem, enact the plan, problem solved.
