What Would You Do?

Creativity at a New Level

Does anyone know, Jeanot Dossus? I didn’t until I read an article about him online. Jeanot is not your typical 15 year old boy. He is not attached to video game or cell phone 7x24 while doing nothing on the couch but complaining about having nothing to do. Jeanot is a 15 year old survivor of the Haiti earthquake and lives in a tent. There is no couch to sit on or television to watch, but Jeanot stays very busy. He made the decision to do something constructive with his time in an attempt to make some money not for a phone or video game but to pay for his education. Rather than feel entitled, he is taking action.

Jeanot is using his talents to make bags and shoes out of trash. Yes I said trash. He cuts cardboard strips then wraps them with plastic from crisp bags like those used for chips. He then takes the material and weaves it together to make purses, flip flops or tote type bags. His efforts add a whole new meaning to recycling and creativity. He has made a conscious choice to do something about his situation and is planning for his future. Taking action and planning? When was the last time you heard or saw that from a teenager?

None of us know what we will do until we are put in certain situations. Personally, I’ve found my greatest inspiration and growth to date has come from being dropped on my head and put in situations I never thought I would see. It goes back to the question of what do I do with this situation rather than why did this happen. The situation is here so work with it rather than question it. Be creative, and take it to a new level.
