Annoying

Task Manager

You know those times when you yell at your computer for running slow or for the dreaded hourglass icon coming up or the program not responding message. Your computer is telling you it has too many dang processes and applications running at one particular time. There are pesky processes running in the background eating away at the processor and memory resources of your machine. You can open the program called Task Manager and see every application and process running. Down at the bottom of the window, you can see the percent utilization of the CPU and memory. If they are pegging at 100%, your computer is out of resources at that given time and cannot accommodate any additional requests. You can wait for all the processes to complete, or you can shut down the ones you do not need. In the event your machine locks up, your only option is a power off reset. You just need to start over.

The same thing can happen to us. We can allow too many processes and applications to be vying for resources to the point we peg out at 100% utilization. Just like our computer, performance diminishes, so does ours. We get stressed, frustrated, and sometimes plain mad. Those are all signs you are starting to peg out your resources. Keep going and you end up blowing up or freezing up in some form or fashion. When you feel the tingling in your neck or your pulse rate kicking up, start your internal task manager to determine what is eating away at your resources. Walk away from your desk, do not respond to the flame text, or forward your phone to voicemail. Do you whatever it is that helps you get back to a normal operating condition. The task manager is your friend. Learn to use it often to manage the processes and applications in your life.
