How It’s Really Done
I can’t believe I am up early after the big throw down party I went to last night. Talking about a Red Carpet event. There was a Rock Star, an LK, a Wild Thing, a Brooklyn, a Rod Star, a Lil Judi, a Buddy, Frosty the Snowman, a Penguin, and other such notables in attendance. Heck, Santa was even there. Last night was the Annual ARC Spring Branch Christmas Party. The ARC Spring Branch is the Association of Retarded Citizens – Spring Branch Chapter. This is Johnny’s group, or as he affectionately calls them, the Kids. Now mind you, the group is not really kids. Sure there are kids, but there are also members in the 60s and older. Each year Laura plans and hosts a party for the group along with some of the group homes in the area. I’ve been fortunate to help out with this great event for the last several years.
This is a party that is different from pretty much any other you will ever attend. This is not one of those stuffy, pretentious events. No one projects the feeling of HAVING to be there. They really WANT to be there. For some, this is THE social event of the year. The very first thing I notice each time is the energy and excitement, and you had better get out of the way when the dancing starts and Santa appears. Some cannot speak yet they communicate with ease. Some cannot walk yet they dance their butts off. There might be some limitations, but you would never know it by the smiles, hugs, and great energy in the room. How can you not have a fabulous time when you are surrounded with goodness? That my friends, is How It’s Really Done!
