You invite me over for beers, ribs, and a cigar. I finish up and throw the cans and bones on the floor then put the cigar out in your couch. I’m 137% certain that would spin you up plus get me taken off the invite list for future events. That’s what I was thinking this morning as I was walking at the park and seeing all the litter all over the place. From cigarette butts to ½ eaten bagels in the pond, there was crap all over. Heck, there was even a used condom on the trail. What goes through someone’s mind that they think it’s ok to litter? Again, they would blow a fuse if I did the same thing at their house. Two polar opposite words come to mind, responsibility and entitlement.
If you choose to smoke cigarettes, then you are 100% responsible for disposing of the butt in an ashtray. You are not entitled to pitch it out the window of your car or put it out on the ground. If you choose to bring a water bottle on your walk at the park, you are 100% responsible for disposing of the bottle in a trash receptacle. You are not entitled to pitch it on the ground with the expectation of someone else picking it up for you. I do not have a job right now, but I am still responsible for paying my house and truck notes. I am not entitled to stop payment on my bills and have someone else pay them for me.
How can we change this entitled society? We start by holding them accountable and responsible.
