Overflow

A healthy rainstorm hit us this morning here in Houston.  As I was leaving for the coffee shop, I noticed some of the ditches were already to the top and overflowing into the streets.  As fast as the rain came, the drainage system could not handle all the runoff at the time; however, some 40 minutes later, the ditches were almost empty.

I walked in the house thinking about we sometimes get flooded with crap and end up with our emotional ditches full, overflowing, and leading to that feeling of being overwhelmed.  I know when I am overwhelmed I usually have one of two initial reactions: run from it, or withdraw to the Bubba Chair.  However, after I allow the initial reaction to pass, I am able to regroup, get calm, and see the events for what they are, a passing storm.  Overflows and floods happen.  They are just a part of life; however, our reaction to the events is totally up to us.
