One-way

We all know exactly what one-way means when it comes to streets and traffic.  There are also one-way people.  They are the ones we only hear from when we initiate contact, or they contact us when they want or need something.  There are people I have not heard from in months because I stopped initiating.  For some reason, they become the victim when they do contact us, “You have not called or emailed me.”  My typical response is, “telephones and computers work in two directions.”

We all have the inborn desire to know we are wanted, needed, desired, or whatever your term of choice.  That’s not insecurity but an internal need.  There is a difference.  Pretty much every day, I send Lauren a note in the morning, or she sends one to me.  It’s nothing earth shattering, but it lets each of us know we are thinking of the other.  I do not see my Dad as often as I should, but we at least talk every week or so.  There is always time if you choose to make it.

If there are people in your life you have not heard from in a while (short of those you no longer want to hear from), think about the last time you initiated and contacted them.  Maybe you are the one-way person this time.  Remember, it’s a choice.
