Groupthink

Yep, groupthink is an actual word.  Spell check did not pop a red line under it so it must be real.  Groupthink is just what the word sounds like.  It’s a type of thinking that occurs in smaller groups where the members shift their thinking to being more aligned with the group and concerned with playing nice and avoiding conflict rather than individual and creative thinking.  Call it going with the flow, choosing your battles, not rocking the boat, or being a team player.  Being sucked up in the groupthink world can still stifle creative and independent thinking.  Meaning, lots of good ideas get pushed right out with no discussion.

I’m all for team or group consensus based decisions as long as a conscious decision was made to join the group decision rather than having it decided for you. Kick groupthink to the curb. That’s for weak minded and lazy people.  Step up and express your ideas and thoughts.  Free and independent thinking is an amazing gift.
