The pause button is one of the most used buttons on my
iPhone. I stream satellite radio to my
phone when I’m working out, and when the commercials come up, I hit pause. I choose not to listen to the babbling
commercials.
I have an internal pause button that I use often. There are times I just need to get away from
the daily distractions and have a little quiet to bleed off the nonsense and
chatter in my head. Sometimes my pause
is sitting in the bubba chair with no television or radio, or it could be
sitting on the beach listening to the waves.
Other times it’s a ride up into the country and sitting on the tailgate
of the truck listening to nothing but nature.
Think of it in terms of a cardio workout. Once you’ve done your workout, you take some
time to catch your breath, cool down, and then hit the shower. I know if I try to go straight from the gym
to the shower, I’m still sweating like a pig afterwards, as I did not take the
time to pause and cool down. Pauses are
essential to maintaining balance. Set a
daily intention to make time for pauses, It’s not the duration of the pause,
but the fact that you are taking a pause.
As the old catch phrase from McDonald’s goes, “You deserve a break
today…”
