Take the Next Exit

Having written for 7+ years, I have a little idea of how the creative process works, or at least how it works for me.  I view the process like driving down the interstate with no particular destination then something inspires me, and I need to exit and follow the inspiration.  Last week, six different things caught my attention, and of those six, four turned into a thought of the day.  Over the years of writing, I’ve learned that attempting to chase the inspiration down the interstate just becomes a road to nowhere, and I either run out of emotional gas or end up in the ditch.  Whether it is the search for inspiration or the need for a break from life, we all need to take the next exit sometimes.
