Contrary to Popular Belief

“I’m the rock that everyone leans on. I have to be the strong one. Everyone in the family depends on me.”

I’ve heard at least one of the sentences above in the last week alone and hear the others too often. In my opinion, that’s so far from the truth, hence the reason for the title for today’s collection of words. I certainly agree there are times we have to be the strong one or the rock.  When there is a significant event, be it work, relationships or family, someone has to take point and lead through the event. However, it is impossible to be the rock or strong one 100% of the time.  Talk to someone long enough that claims to be the rock all the time, and before too long, you will start seeing chinks in the armor.
Eventually, you will crash.  It happens to everyone without exception.

How often have you read stories of high-powered executives dying at a young age from stress or hearth attack?  How often do you hear parents talk about needing a little break from the kids?  Check the stats out there. Stress is one of the underlying top causes of death.  We are not made to be on 100% of the time.   We all need quiet days, spa days, Harley therapy, or whatever activity you choose to do to decompress and de-stress your life. Assign any label you want, but make sure you do make time for some, “Me time.”

Contrary to popular belief, the world will not stop if we take some time to recharge.  Actually, the world becomes a better place when we are recharged and smiling.
