No matter how much money you have, how successful you are,
or if you are in the best of health, there is an instance where 100% of us have
zero immunity. There is no drug for it, or anything you can do to protect
yourself. Eventually, we all need help. The
odd thing about giving help or asking for help is that it seems to be
situational.
No one thinks twice about asking for help with homework or
maybe another hand when hanging a picture, but let it be something emotional or
maybe financial, and they fall apart. I
know in my case, I was reluctant in the past, as I felt asking for or taking
help meant I had failed at something.
Over the years, I have learned that asking for help just means there are
things I cannot do or fix on my own.
Another important thing about giving/receiving help is that
it is good and healthy for both sides. Being
able to help someone allows me to feel I make a difference and am valued. Receiving help reminds me that even though I
am a “fixer/rescuer” at heart, there are sometimes where someone has the
answers I cannot find at the time.
Help is one of the good four letter words. When we give and
receive help, we change lives, both theirs and our own. As Gandhi said, “Be the change that you wish to
see in the world.”
