That Sinking Feeling



I ran across a term that hit home with me, emotional quicksand.  There have been plenty of times, and will be more I’m sure, where I’ve felt I was sinking in the emotional quicksand of things from my past. My sinking feeling typically happens, because of my inner fixer/rescuer that thinks I can indeed fix everything, rather than realizing that some things just cannot be fixed and need to be accepted for what they are or put in a different place where they no longer haunt me.  Judith Sills, Ph.D., sums it up quite nicely: We don't get over the past. We get past it.”

The next time that sinking feeling of the emotional quicksand hits you, think about Judith’s words.
