You make me feel like a failure, you make me feel like a million dollars, you make me feel like this or that. Can someone really make you feel a certain thing or a certain way? Sure, the actions or words of someone else can drive your feelings in a certain direction, but can they really make us feel a certain way? I say no. Our feelings are ours. Sure, we can let the words and actions of others have an impact on us, but they do not make us feel a certain way unless we allow it.
There are players out there who know how to work on the emotions and feelings of others, but the more open and in tune you become, the better you get at smelling a player. Being aware is different from allowing. Enhanced awareness means you are indeed relying on and trusting your senses and judgment rather than going on pure emotion.
A common response I get when I have conversations with people is, “You make me feel good about myself.” I really do not make them, but I do speak positivity into others and give them things to think about to allow them to feel better about themselves. The next time you feel the “You make me feel like” coming up, do a little switch word game in your head to, I allow you to fill in the blank. Remember, your feelings are yours and words only have the power you assign to them.
