One of the best gifts my dad gave me is a work ethic. It was and still is one of the foundational building blocks for my life. I started mowing yards and throwing newspapers in April of 1967 in Alvin, and on May 8, 2022, some 55 years later, I still have that same work ethic and enjoy working. Sure, I work a little less and play a little more, but I do still have fun playing with technology and helping clients leverage technology to make their jobs better.
A couple of other foundational building blocks are honesty, kindness, and making a difference in the world. Much like the slab of a home, life’s foundational building blocks can determine the stability, strength, and quality of your life going forward. If you have a weak foundation, go through life trying to shortcut things, and not putting in the work, that’s exactly what you will get back. Yes, I’m a believer in karma and know the equation always balances at some point. No matter how hard someone tries to sidestep karma, it ultimately wins. Between my work ethic, honesty, kindness, and making a difference, I have a dang good life.
What are your foundational building blocks?
