The Table - Revisited

I originally wrote this one in 2010 and still live it in 2023.

Who is at your table? The table refers to the inner circle of people in your life. There are only a certain number of seats at the table for the closest friends, confidants, or family. Not everyone deserves or should have a seat at your table. It gets back the difference between friends and acquaintances. Friends are those in your life who say okay when you ask for help. They are there for and with you no matter the situation. Acquaintances are those who say what do you need when asking for help. There are typically conditions with acquaintances.

The funny thing about the table is that at some point, we all attempt to have a giant table full of people. All humans are inherently insecure and think quantity can be better than quality at times. Before you know it, friends, acquaintances, and people who are takers and bring nothing to the table are all around you. It gets back to that little thing called boundaries.

We must know who belongs at the table, who does not, and when it is time to move some away from or up to the table. Unfortunately, it is not always easy removing someone from your table but is necessary. If your table looks like a throw down at a crawfish festival, it is time to rethink your seating. Reservations are required for the people at the table. Choose wisely and review your table often.
