Sometimes It Works Out The Way it Should
“Say it, see it, believe it, and it will happen.” – Rodney Williams
You never know how things will work out sometimes, but I contend if you visualize it, manifest it, and believe it, it will happen when the time is right. Yesterday was the right time for me.
With six Harley dealers within a 50 mile radius of Houston, I knew someone would want to sell a bike at a fair price. The first two I tried on Friday either did not have the bike I wanted or were selling at MSRP and no discounts on parts or accessories. So I thanked them for their time and left. Yesterday morning when I woke up at 3:03, I started thinking about the new bike and visualized getting it at the price I wanted. I hopped on the computer to see when the next closest dealer, Stubbs Harley-Davidson, opened.
I hopped on the silver bike, with title in hand, and was there when the door opened at 8:30 and met Huey Smith a few minutes later. He smiled, walked up, introduced himself, and gave a firm handshake. Huey is in his mid 50;s, kinda low key, used to be a very prominent businessman in the boating world at one time, and has been selling motorcycles for about five years now. He had a very good energy about him. I told Huey I was interested in a new Street Glide and may buy one today if I we could get to the right number on my trade and the right number on the new one. He gave about half a smile and said: “you know, our job is to try to get your bike for as low a dollar as we can and sell ours for as high a dollar as we can and your job is to get as much as you can for your trade and get the new one for as low as you can and it’s my job to find a place in there where we can meet on a price that is fair for both of us.” I liked the way he said it. That was indeed the process summed up in a few words.
I found the one I liked and the process started. He came back with a number and was laughing:” here’s where we start…they low balled on your trade and are wanting MSRP for the new bike…now we both know this won’t work for you so this is the part where you tell me where you need to be on your trade and want to be the new one for.” I gave him my number on both cases, he went back to the manager and they countered, and I countered. We were still $1,000 apart on my trade. They took another $500 out of the price and gave me a $500 gift card so we were where I needed to be on my trade. Here is where things change and get even better.
I’m looking at the final invoice and see that one of the options I wanted, ABS, was not on the bike. Now ABS is a $900 option on Harleys. That’s not chump change. Huey went back to Jason, the sales manager, to review the order. They honored the original price and gave me the bike with ABS so now I was $900 more to the better. So now I am the new owner of a 2010 Street Glide. My positive thinking and visualization had worked.
And to add a little bit in about my instincts about Huey being right, a long time friend of mine from the rodeo walked in and saw me talking to Huey. Come to find out, he has known Huey from boating for many years. After Huey walked off, Yance said, “you won’t find a more honest or genuine guy than Huey…I’ve known him for a lot of years…he’s just good people…”
Sometimes it just works out the way it should.

I have a new Harley.

I saw a guy changing the tire of a woman’s car the other day. She was insistent on paying him and asked me where an ATM was located. I told her and she walked over. I helped the guy wrap up the change and he left. She came back and was a little miffed that he had left. “I needed to pay him for doing that…” I told her” “there are still some good people in the world…he did it for you now just pay it forward…” She got the funny look on her face, shook my hand, smiled and drove off. I bet she is still thinking about paying it forward.
