Remember When
“Every event in your life is a one-time experience. It will never happen exactly the same again. Cherish your moments and those in your life. They are indeed "one-time events" - Rodney Williams
I went for a ride yesterday morning to do a little pondering, head clearing, and picture taking. The first stop for a pic was in Rose Hill on 2920 west of Tomball. There’s not a lot there, but they do have the Showboat Drive-in. Yes I said drive-in as in drive-in picture show. It has two screens and shows first run movies. To my knowledge, it’s the only one in the Houston metro area.
As I was taking pictures, I began to “remember when” we would go to drive-ins. You would pull up on the hill in the parking lot, hang the big metal speaker on the window, fire up “The Pic” to keep the skeeters away, and watch the movie. There was the big one on Telephone Road went to when I was a kid. There was the one in Alvin I went to as a teen. When we did not have the money to get in, we would just park on the road behind the drive-in and watch without sound and make up our own lyrics while eating chicken. I even remember going to one with my second cousin Jeff in Llano, Texas of all places. And yes, Richard, I could not go without mentioning the XXX drive-in on Red Bluff in Pasadena. I went there too just like you did.
Isn’t it funny how stopping on the side of the road to take a “new” picture can drum so many old and good memories? I know as I get older, pictures become more important to me as y’all can tell by the 100’s I have on Facebook. That’s why I carry a digital camera on the bike. I wanna be able to look at the pictures when I’m 70 and riding a Harley Trike (yes they make a three wheel Harley) and say “Remember When.”
Action Item - Pictures capture memories. When someone asks to take your picture or take one with them, DO IT! That’s their way of saying “you’re important and I want this memory of this very moment with you.” Remember, “Every event in your life is a one-time experience.” Create some “Remember When” moments today!
