I get away from desk a few times a day and just walk outside to feel the sun, and listen to the wind for a few minutes. It gives me a little recharge. As I was standing outside yesterday, I saw one of the porters sweeping up the leaves and acorns on the sidewalk. There was also an acorn on the wall next to me. As I looked at, I began to think about the functions of the acorn. In this case, it provides work for the porter cleaning the outside area. For a squirrel, it is food. For kids, it’s something to throw at each other. As I thought more on the simple acorn, I thought about the many functions we provide to each other.
At some point in our respective lives, we are listeners, we are friends, we are lovers, we are boyfriends and girlfriends, we are wives or husbands, we are brothers and sisters, we are mentors, we are parents, we are grandparents, we are bosses, we are workers, we are strangers, we are neighbors, we are support to someone in need, someone supports us in our need, and so many more that I could continue and would probably blow up my computer before I ran out of things to write.
The point is we contribute so much to the world and to each other without even knowing or acknowledging it sometimes. That is why it is so important to me to thank and acknowledge everyone. We all provide and give so much to each other and to this world. When I hear someone say something like I bring nothing to the table or why would anyone want me, I consider it an opportunity to sit and tell them just exactly everything they do bring to the table. When I’ve done it, I’ve watched as the other person’s eyes just lit up as I was filling them with positivity and goodness through my words and energy. It’s not patronizing or blowing smoke but the genuine sharing and helping someone understand just how important they truly are to me and to the world. Take a moment to look around at the people in your life. Invest a few minutes of your time, energy, and good words to let them know they matter. Like the acorn, we all have many functions in this world. Embrace each and every one of your functions and make the world a better place.
