The Button
"When you speak from your heart, the right words come to you." - Rodney Williams
In radio, they have a little device just known as The Button. With the exception of satellite radio, stations run on a seven second delay. Should someone on the radio say something that could be considered a “fineable offense” by the FCC, the button operator has seven seconds to catch and dump that part of the broadcast.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we had The Button built in? Most of the time, I feel I do, and I work hard to think before saying. Without fail though, each time I’ve shot or shoot my mouth off, it is emotion/ego driven. As soon as the words left my mouth or I hit the enter key, I knew it was wrong. Heck, there have been times that my spirit was telling me “Rodney, don’t do it…you know it’s wrong and you know what the outcome will be…” There are just some times when there are so many chemicals and hormones being released in your head due to some type of emotional/ego driven event that you just throw all logic and sound decision making right out the door. That’s not an excuse. It’s just what happens sometimes.
Two tools I still work to employ are as follows:
1. Count to five in my head
2. Saying to the other party: “I just don’t have the words to respond properly right now. Can you give me some time to formulate my response? I do want to discuss this topic, but I just do not feel I can do it in the proper manner right now.”
I know my button could use some calibrating. In fact, that’s what I’ve asked Santa for this year.

I think that's a good one for all of us to put on our list! Blessings
