Treasure
“Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.” – Chinese Proverb
When I first read today’s quote, the word learning kept popping out at me, but when I started writing this one, treasure became the dominant word and basis for the words today. The default thought for most when they hear the word treasure is pirates and chests full of gold and other assorted booty and plunder. Those are just things that value has been assigned to just like money or anything else.
I consider the treasures in my life to be my spirituality, the people, relationships, and life experiences that combine to make Rodney Wayne Williams. They’re not my house, the job, the Harley, the money, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I am very grateful for the things in my life, but every single one of them is replaceable. Without spirituality, the people, relationships, and life experiences, I am nothing more than 224 lbs skin and bones. The high moments, the low moments, the loving moments, the hurting moment, they are all treasures as every single one of them change or have changed my life in some way or another.
If you are not changing a little in some way every day, you are just existing rather than living life to its fullest. To me, the real learning in life is understanding what your real treasures are. It is really just a matter of your perspective. Do you know what your treasures are? Better yet, do those in your life know they are your treasures? Don’t assume they know, make sure they know.
