Perifera
“Every day you have the opportunity to learn and experience some-thing and some-one new. Seize the opportunity. Learn and experience everything you can, and use it to change the world.” – Rodney Williams
I’ve actually been called today’s title before, and I took it and still take it as a compliment. Perifera is the scientific term for a sponge. So why would I be called a sponge? Well not for the obvious reasons of mooching off others but because I take in everything around me. As some told me, “you’re scanning the room again.” I would walk in a room and was immediately looking at everyone around me, the exits, and any potential threats. That just came from so many years of martial arts and being a bouncer I guess.
My role as a perifera has changed over the last several years. I still check out rooms when I walk in, but intense scanning has been replaced by sensing, feeling, and listening. I now pay attention to the energy in the room, the dynamics between people and the communication or lack of. I find I am learning so much more now by just doing those three things: sensing, feeling, and listening. What I take in becomes part of me. Even when there is negative energy in the room, I try to see if there is anything I can take away from it. If there is, I stay, listen and learn. If there isn’t, I leave. Some of y’all reading this have been with me when I said: “this doesn’t feel right and we need to leave.” I’ve learned that as I become more aware, there is so much more out there to learn. We all have the ability to be perifera. So do you take in and learn from your experiences and surroundings? That was a rhetorical question. Whether you know it or not, you do it. In fact, some scientists suggest that every single event in your life is stored in your brain. You just may not know what to do with it yet. And yes there are many times that I ask the good Lord, what am I supposed to do with this information. Sooner or later, I do get the answer. Get quiet and learn to sense, feel, and listen. If you need help, you know where I’m at.

Love the format. Fresh, clean and you. Good lesson today. I will hold it close. Blessings. Patty
