The Equation of Life
“That’s a $20 bill…I know…thank you for taking care of me each morning…without you…I would not have a job…thank you for being a customer…that’s the equation of life…taking care of each other…”
The dialog above happened Thursday morning between Lynn and me at Starbucks as I left $20 in the tip jar. The term equation of life just came to me as we were thanking each other for our respective rolls in the transaction of buying/serving a cup of coffee. Giving thanks + getting thanks = total gratitude. Isn’t that what it is all supposed to be about anyway, being thankful for everything and everyone? Even when we may not see the value of an interaction or transaction at the time, there is a value to it. Striving to live in a mindset of gratitude can only improve your quality of life.
I think back on some of my biggest ups and biggest downs in life and can look at them now and say thank you for the experience. No matter how it ended, I am still so thankful for the experience. Without fail “something” came out of the experience that I can carry forward to the next one. I give thanks for any and all events. Give without expectation and you will get beyond your wildest imagination. At that point, you will experience total gratitude. Strive to be an A student when working with the equation of life.
