Here’s What I Know

There are a few things I really enjoy discussing, but the subject at the top of my list is living in the moment. Last night afforded me an opportunity to discuss that very subject on and off for about five hours. Some parts were deep and introspective and other parts very light hearted and funny. The conversations bounced from the past to things in the future, but it always came back to that one subject of “the now.” As I like to put it: “here’s what I know.” When it comes down to it, what else do you have but the now?

Yes I have more thoughts about the past than I care too and probably worry more than I should about the future. I also know I feel the best when I am in the moment. I just keep thinking how important and precious that moment is as it will never repeat and is really the only thing I know and have. I remember telling Jamie years ago: “this living in the moment crap is hard…” I still remember the snicker on her face and her response: “once you learn how to live in the moment, it just becomes your way of life.” She was so right.

Living in the moment is indeed a little different at first as you have to somewhat retrain your brain and learn to filter the chatter from the past and filter the worry about the future. In true sense of living in the moment, it is a dynamic and ever changing process. That’s what makes it so wonderful. It is definitely a new adventure every single second of every single day. I also continue to discover that the more effort I put in to living in the moment, the less pressure there is in my life to do or be whatever. Less pressure in my life means less pressure in the lives of those connected to me. Less pressure is “more gooder” for everyone.

“Here’s what I know” at 7:15 am on February 20, 2010. I am at Starbucks writing away about living in the moment. I have no idea what is going to happen at 7:16 am, and I’m totally fine and happy with that.
