The Reset

Tripped

At some point or another, everyone has tripped a breaker at their house. Plugging a space heater, coffee pot, toaster, dryer and laser printer into one circuit just doesn’t work. Overload the circuit and the circuit breaker trips. It’s a safety mechanism design to protect the devices plugged along with protecting the integrity of the electrical distribution system in your house.

Over the weekend, I took a class on energy medicine. Our bodies have numerous energy systems within them and on the outside. When things are in balance, we feel good on all fronts. When things are out of balance in our bodymind complex, they settle somewhere in our body in the form of anxiety, illness, sadness, stress, etc. Like an electrical circuit we have circuit breakers in our body that can trip when we get overloaded. Parts of us can just shut down in times of stress or trauma. To protect the body, the brain just shuts down sometimes. The most common phrase you will hear to describe it is: “hitting the wall.” As is the case with a tripped breaker on an electrical circuit, our body has internal resets to get us back online.

One of the techniques we learned in the class is called switching. It is a procedure for immediately resetting the stress circuit breakers immediately rather than waiting for your body to do in on its own time. It is a simple process of refocusing with an intention of resetting your stress circuit breakers, deep breathing, tapping and linking to get the brain and heart to get the bodymind complex back online.

Some people brag about having a high stress threshold. Is that something you really want to be proud of? You can run yourself to the ragged edge and all for what; the thrill, the money, the need to prove yourself? What does a high stress level give you? It can give you a strained/broken relationship. It can give you ulcers. It can give you high blood pressure. It can alienate you from your friends, family and life. It can give you a nervous breakdown. It can give you an unfulfilled and sometimes very short life. To be honest, I can’t come up with one positive thing stress can give you. All it does it take. Read the stats people. Stress and stress related injuries are the top cause of death.

Learn to listen and feel what your body is telling you. It is a wonderfully unique complex machine. When you feel anxious, when you feel the tension settling in your neck, when you feel uncomfortable about something, when you feel run down, those are all indicators from your body you are close to tripping an internal breaker. Strive to maintain balance rather than always resetting your breakers.

If you want some help on learning how to maintain balance, contact me. I can show you how just 10 minutes a day can totally change your life for the better. You can find out more about energy medicine on the BodyTalk web site at
