Skip the Motions
Gifts are as much about the giver as they are the receiver. I’ve written about that very subject a number of times. For those new to the group, when I give a gift, whether it is tangible or my time, I am giving a piece of me to you. I’m not just giving you a card for no reason, a hug for no reason, a computer for no reason, or just hours of my time. I’m giving you a piece of my heart, my energy, my spirit. And trust me, you will know it and feel it when I give it to you. Ask Teri, Lauren, Judi, Sally, Laura, Johnny, my Sister, my Dad, etc.
With Valentine’s Day coming up, I just really wanted to impress the importance of giving of yourself to someone. When you run in to the local flower shop and grab whatever is handy or grab the closest box of candy, your intent and energy are attached to the gift. The receiver will “feel” the lack of thought that went into getting gift. Go ahead and think I’m out there again, but everyone knows exactly what I’m talking about. Every single person reading this note has at one time or another received a gift and felt…”wow, you put a lot of thought and effort into this one didn’t you...” You can’t help but feel it.
When you put a piece of your heart and energy into your gift, the receiver feels it as you are projecting the intent when you give it to them. When you take the time to pick that right card, or better yet make that card yourself, it shows as your energy is imprinted. I recently gave Lauren a homemade gift certificate for some things that will help her when her baby is born. She got quiet and had some tears. She said: “I’ve never ever cried over a gift before.” She felt the genuine love and piece of my heart behind the gift. She felt the intent tied to the gift. She said thank you and hugged me. That was her gift to me: a piece of her energy, heart and affection.
On February 14, 2010, skip the motions and give those people close to you a piece of your heart. Make that homemade card. Cook a dinner at home. Drive to a quiet place in the country and just enjoy the time together. You will change their life, your own life and everyone connected to you. That is just how it works folks.
