Not That Many Left

Clay and I were sitting by the pool yesterday drinking a cold beer and talking it up a bit. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw this girl attempting to move her chase lounge over by us to get more sun. I swung around, walked over and picked it up for her. After I sat it down, she said: “thank you for being a gentleman…there are not many left.” I said you’re welcome and there are more of us around than you think. She said “older guys know how but not guys my age as she looked over her shoulder. The six guys in her group made no attempt to help her with the chair.

She was 100% right. I began looking around at the younger guys and not a one was lifting a finger to do anything for the woman next them. They were not passing them drinks, pulling out chairs or anything considered common courtesy. Heck! I even saw one guy try to pull a towel out from under a girl. He pulled so hard it almost took her bathing suit bottoms off. He started laughing and said “it’s my towel.” It’s just a damn towel. In the words or Nora: “Boys are dumb, Rod.” I think our group can change this growing epidemic of common courtesy going by the wayside.

For all the guys in the group, look for an opportunity to express a little courtesy. Hug the woman in your life for no apparent reason, give her a card, take her to breakfast, or just open the car door. Better yet, open the door to the house and let her in first. Do everything with a smile. It makes a difference.

For the ladies in the group, give us a hug, pat us on the back, or just say thank you for something. We are simple creatures, although bitten with the ego bug, and just like being noticed. If you smile and hug us, we may even put the lid down on the toilet.

As certified positive thinkers, we continue to change the world a little each day through our prayers, positive energy, and right thinking outlook on life. Y’all change me a little each day just by being connected to me, and I thank you for those changes. Let’s go out and change “not that many” to “heck, they are all over the place like roaches.”
