Sunday Words From the Seat of the Harley

Two Letters – So Much Power

Yesterday I opted for some Harley therapy rather than rodeo time. Mr. Harley decided he wanted to go to Galveston so off we went. As I was sitting on the deck at the Starbucks on the Strand, I began looking around at all the tourists walking the streets. I heard various languages being spoken, saw kids running amuck, people taking pictures, and noticed one very glaring and missing thing. These strangers were not talking to each other. They would pass on the sidewalk and just keep going. I was thinking about all the missed opportunities to just say hi and maybe change something in their respective lives. It reminded me of a quote I wrote a few years ago: “So much opportunity resides in one simple word: HI”

I decided a long time ago to make an effort to say HI to everyone that passes me. Initially, that decision was made to help me work on my default nature of being an introvert and shy guy. I also thought who better to learn something from than a total stranger. There is also another little thing that happens with those two letters: a smile. So if you know there is an opportunity to learn something new and make someone smile, why wouldn’t you say HI?

Today’s challenge is to use those two powerful letters with at least one stranger and report back to me where it goes. I am certain you will at least get a smile and maybe a little conversation. Go forth and say HI!
