Clean and Shape
“I think my head is swelled…my hat is making a dent in my head, Rod.” That’s what Nora said yesterday when she put on her cowboy hat to head out to the rodeo. I told her cowboy hats just sometimes need to be cleaned, stretched and reshaped a little and there are vendors at Reliant Center that could clean and reshape the hat. So off we went with a mission: get hats reshaped, laugh a little, and drink a few of those tasty cans of “liquidy” goodness.
We rolled up to the counter of a hat vendor and off he went working on getting Nora’s hat stretched a little. I figured while we were there I would get my hat cleaned and shaped too. First he cleaned it up a little then began working on reshaping the hat. That process involves using steam to make the hat pliable so it can be worked back into the proper shape. He works on my hat for a bit and keeps going back to one part of the brim on the back left side. That particular area needed a little more work. He finally gets my hat all reshaped and looking like brand new. I pulled some money out to pay the man and asked him how much. He said that’ll be $5. I said each, and he said no just $5. I looked up at the sign again and it said $15 to clean, shape and stiffen so that’s what I was expecting. I smiled and handed him a $10 and he was handing me the $5 change and I asked him to keep it for a tip. He smiled back and we left. I came close to debating him about the price but then thought he was giving us a gift of a blessing by discounting the price. He wanted to so I accepted his gift.
Our lives are like hats. Things happen where we lose a little of our shape, sometimes get a little bent and banged up on the edges, and just need a good emotional and physical cleaning. I did a little reshaping and cleaning myself this week. The rodeo had me running so much and with a little more structure than I really wanted. I took a day off from the show, went to sleep at 8:30 the other night then got a massage yesterday to get the knots out and get reshaped a little.
Is your brim a little out of shape in places? Do you feel a little tight in certain places? Take some time to get reshaped. Take a long hot bath. Turn the cell phone off for a few hours. Take a drive out to the country and just listen to the wind. There are all sorts of way to clean and shape you life. Find the things that work for you and get you “lid” looking great.
