Wednesday's Words From The Saddle

I Can Do That

I was in the elevator last week with three other people. I reached in my shirt pocket and pulled out some cash to put in my money clip. One of the others said “I guess you’re buying the coffee this morning?” I smiled back and said I can certainly do that after I make a quick drop off with a friend. When we stopped in the lobby, they went one direction and I another. After I ran my quick errand, I walked through the lobby to see the three of them in line. I walked up and said “I’m here to get your coffee.” All three started blushing, were taken aback, then smiled. They said we were just joking, and I said I know but I told you would buy your coffee. We introduced ourselves, I bought their coffee then off I went. I looked back to see them still talking and wondering why a stranger would buy them coffee. I’ve seen them a couple of times since then, and without fail, they say hi and smile. For a $7 investment in coffee, I now see priceless smiles on three new people in my life.

I Can Do That. Use that phrase sometime today and make a change in someone’s life. Whether it is just smiling, saying hello, or buying a stranger some coffee, you are investing in the collective goodness of the world. That investment has far better and rewarding returns than the stock market. Try it and see. You will find out what I am talking about. When you do, shoot me a note so I can share it with the world. “I Can Do That.” Those four little words are priceless.
