These Are The Days We Will Remember
Today’s title is actually out of the chorus line of Keith Urban’s song These Are The Days. We all have a set amount of days on this earth, and luckily for us, we do not know that number. How different would your life be right now if you were given your exit date? I’m 100% certain your perspective on every part of your life would change. How could it not?
There that word is again: perspective. One definition refers to perspective as a subjective evaluation of relative significance; a point of view. There was a time where my perspective was that I was bullet proof. I was the top producer at the company. I made silly amounts of money. I had the Porsches, multiple Harleys, taking trips all over, and just thought I could solve every problem out there. Personally, I’ve seen mine totally change over the last few years. When I ran up against the problem I could not solve or throw money at, my perspective began to change.
When I started down my new path, I asked my nephew one day, so tell me what you know about Uncle Rodney. He said: “well you are my rich uncle that lives in a big house with lots of cars and motorcycles and you have a maid…that’s what I tell all my friends…” That was his perspective of his Uncle Rodney. Obviously, I had done a great job at projecting as that was indeed what my life was all about at one time. Heck, there was a time I would have considered that a compliment. I’ve come to realize that making lots of money, being the top producer in the company, and trying to solve every problem I run across are not the things that are important in life.
My new perspective revolves around surrounding myself with great and wonderful people, accepting there will always be problems I can’t solve or fix, love people for where they are in life, working to use my resources to make a difference in the world, ensuring that those close to me know how important they are and that they are loved, and first and foremost to be happy and enjoy my life. One of my nightly prayers goes something like this: “Thank you Lord for giving me another day on this earth. Whether or not I see tomorrow, I just want you to know how thankful I am for today.”
