The Power

Should Know Better

I was in the elevator lobby the other day and asked a co-worker how she was doing. She said: “I’ve been better.” I smiled then she smiled and looked at the ground and said: “I should know better than to say that to you of all people.” I took it as a huge compliment. Just by me smiling, it triggered her to rethink what she had just said. I write often about how a smile or hug can make all the difference in the world. I even joke about it a lot: “do not underestimate my power.” That little exchange in the elevator lobby validates how simple it is to make a change with just the power of a smile. Exercise your power today. Drop a smile on someone for no apparent reason and watch what happens. Before you know it, you will have people in your office saying: “I should know better.”
