Once in a Lifetime Deal!

You’re Gonna Miss This

Messages and inspiration come from many different sources. I get a lot of inspiration from music. Today’s title is one of Trace Adkin’s songs and happens to be one of my favorites. To me, the song is about living life and enjoying the people and events when they happen (living in the moment) rather than trying to rush everything. Read the chorus below, and it will make sense.

You’re gonna miss this…you’re gonna want this back…you’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast…these are good times…so take a good look around…you may not know it now…but you’re gonna miss this…

All too often I see the “I can’t wait till insert subject” attitude of looking to the next event or adventure rather than seeing the seconds you are living right now as the next event or adventure. I was asked last week if I was excited about going to drive the race car in Ft. Worth. My response was, “yes I’m excited, but I’m kinda diggin the right now.” At the time, I was drinking a beer, having some food, talking, and enjoying some company. Drinking a beer and having some food is not an uncommon occurrence for me, but I knew that particular moment, particular conversation, and particular beer would never occur again, and I wanted to savor the moment. Sure I think about the future and about the past, but I strive to steer my thoughts and actions to the present. After all, that’s all I really know is what is happening this very moment. The rest has happened or is gonna happen, and in both instances, there is zero I can do about it.

I find some people get uncomfortable when I say “thank you for giving me some time out of your life…it means the world to me…” They typically do not know how to react or what to say. Some do not respond at all, some say it’s no big deal, some blush, and others respond accordingly with the right answer…you’re welcome.

As I say often, time is the most precious gift we have as it cannot be replaced. If you approach life with that attitude, you will find so much more meaning and fulfillment in everything you do. Thank someone for their time today. Whether it is a phone call, text, IM, smoke signals, carrier pigeon, or kite string and coffee cups, just take the time to be thankful.

You’re gonna miss this…you’re gonna want this back…you’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast…these are good times…so take a good look around…you may not know it now…but you’re gonna miss this…

Don’t miss a thing my dear friends. Take it all in and enjoy every second you have. Thank you for the time you took to read my words for the day. I love you all.
