You Can't Stop It!

I Doubt It

Joel spoke this past Sunday on doubt. He was speaking in the context of spiritual beliefs. As he put it, “doubt is normal…doubt is expected...doubt can good…” I thought about doubt all day and night.

Many things cause doubt. Based on my experiences, the most common causes are: external influences in the form negative comments from people, self loathing based on events of the past, and our ego playing on our insecurities. “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard, you’re worthless, why doesn’t he/she want to be with me, I have so many flaws…you just don’t see them…I don’t know why anyone would want me…” Any of those sound familiar? They are things I’ve either overheard, said, or have been told directly.

Self doubt and self questioning are a normal part of life. I know I doubt and question myself daily, and I’m ok with it as I know when it is happening. The majority of the time I embrace doubt for one very simple reason. Doubting means I’m thinking rather than accepting or succumbing to the thoughts. If I’m thinking, I can make a choice. I’ve found that some of my greatest growth experiences came out of doubt of some sort. It came back to the “what vs. why” question. Rather than fixate on why I have the doubt, I choose to think what can I with this doubt? Like every aspect of life, doubt comes down to the very simple concept of choice. We all have free will which allows us the luxury to choosing what to do with the doubt.

You will doubt yourself today. That’s just part of life. Just one time, try it my way and embrace your doubt. I firmly belief it will bring something good in your life. If you doubt it, CALL ME!
