The "C" Word

Do You Know the Difference?

What is the difference between vision and a dream? It’s really quite simple. The difference between vision and a dream is the “C” word: commitment. Have you ever noticed when people talk about their dreams, it is typically in broad terms with no action plan or dates. “My dream is to have my own business.” My dream is to be successful.” When you ask, what kind of business, the answer is typically “I don’t know.” When you ask, how do you define being successful, you get answers from having money in the bank to having a big house. Dreams are good for the imagination, but without commitment to your dreams through a vision with an action plan, dreams will stay just dreams floating around in your head.

I was fortunate to hear Mike Singletary, former Chicago Bear, 10-time Pro Bowl Player, member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and currently Coach of the San Francisco 49ers, speak the other day. He spoke of how he began defining his vision for life at the age of 12. He wrote about finishing high school, graduating from college, becoming an NFL star, becoming a Coach and buying his mother a house and taking of her. Mike wrote all of these events down with dates. He spoke of getting teased by his siblings telling him he would never do it. He spoke about tearing down the list, wadding it up and throwing it on the ground some days. He also spoke of getting the wadded list off the floor and putting it back up on the way. Mike stayed true to his vision and accomplished the items on his list. He believed in himself, put action behind his vision and committed himself to completing the tasks.

One of the tools used in applying the Law of Attraction to life, is the use of Vision Boards. It’s the process of identifying, through photos and statements, what you desire to attract to your life. When you commit to the things on the board, the vision statements can become reality if you make the commitment. If you desire to be debt free, define a plan to make that happen. Commit to making it happen. When you put commitment to your dreams, they become vision. With defined vision, your potential in life is unlimited. Embrace the “C” word and change your life.
