It Needed Doing
I was upstairs and heard something rattling around in the kitchen. About that time, I recalled pulling the trash out of the can but did not get it downstairs. The rattling was Johnny. He took the initiative, saw it needed doing, and just did it. He took the trash down to the garage. He did not say anything about doing it, but I thanked him when I walked in the kitchen and saw it gone. He said: “no problem…you’re welcome.” In this “not my responsibility or what’s in it for me” society we live in now, it was quite refreshing to see Johnny take care of the trash without being asked.
Where have accountability, initiative, and ownership gone? Teens believe they are owed a cell phone, a car, gas, and of course gas money and spending money. But don’t dare ask them to do anything around the house. Congress spends more time trying to shift blame than problem solving. Most every day you will find at least one article looking to blame someone for something. Wouldn’t it be so nice for one, just one, politician to step up and say: “I did it. I messed up. I have no excuse. I own it.” Who am I kidding?
Hmmm. Maybe we should send Johnny to Washington. There are plenty of things up there that need doing.

The only time members of Congress admit their sin is when they are caught with their pants literally down in some personal sex or hand in the till scandal. Even then there has to be a picture or a paper trail to prove it!
