Personally Speaking

It’s Personal

I keep a drawing my niece Angel made for me on my fridge.  It has been there for many years now.  She has probably forgotten she even drew it for me, but it certainly holds a special place in my heart.  Last week I looked through a big collection of cards I have received over the years covering anything from relationships to a group of thank you cards from Lauren.  Last night I looked a Harley denim jacket I bought in 1988 and gave to my Mom to accessorize (she had a knack for doing things like that) and sell to use the money to help my sister pay for college.  The jacket has never been worn and keeps some of my other jackets company in the closet as it has since my Mom passed away.

When I go to my sister’s house, I still see little reminders of things my sister or I made for my Mom and Dad.  My Dad also has little trinkets around his house from our years as kids.  I recall through the years of growing up that I’d see these things and think, why would Mom and Dad keep some silly little clay thing or drawing I made when I was a kid? All it is doing is taking up space and collecting dust.

When Shayne came home for the last holiday, I watched him take a Harley gas tank down off the hanger in the garage and talk about how he had repaired the tank and painted it in auto body class in high school. He asked Mark, my brother in law, if he remembered. Mark said of course, I do, and under his breath, he said, “and it will never go on a bike.”

So why the examples above, It’s personal.  Not personal in the sense of none of your business, but it’s personal as in a piece of the person giving, better known as a gift from the heart.  The great thing about gifts from the heart is you never have to say a thing or explain them.  They speak for themselves as the good energy just goes with the gift.  Kind words and hugs are two gifts that require no money but are priceless as they are one of kind and personal.  Get personal with someone today and share a gift from your heart.
