Uncle
About twice a year I get the sinus nonsense with the itchy eyes and head in a vice feeling. Last Friday was one of those days. I was driving down the road minding my own business, and bam, the sneezing started. I knew what was coming next and know it typically lasts about three days. I started my normal regimen of over the counter goodies but felt the symptoms getting worse this time. By Monday, things were the same so I cried uncle and went to the Dr. for a Z-Pack first thing Tuesday morning. Come to find out, I had an upper respiratory infection.
Short of annual physicals, I am not a big fan of going to the Dr. or taking medication, but I know my body well enough to know when I need some assistance. I apply the same philosophy to the other aspects, emotional, spiritual, and mental, of my life too. I use the tools I have picked up over the years, and if they are not working in a reasonable amount of time, I reach out. Sometimes I just need someone to listen and other times just a heart-to-heart hug. I have learned my limitations and learned when it is okay to say Uncle. Contrary to popular belief, saying Uncle is one of the smarter things you can do. Rather than continue trying to painfully power through a situation, learn to say Uncle and ask for help when you need it. You will be feeling better before you know it.
Good way to live, I think.
ReplyDeleteThe thing about being sick is you are the sick one and therefore you are alone in your sickness. Others try to help but it's impossible to transfer the hurt to another.
