Three Things For Ya

C, R, & G

It’s 4:48 am on Saturday morning. I’m sitting on the patio looking at the stars, listening to the waves on the beach, watching a couple head out to the beach already, having some C-store coffee, and thinking about the past two days. I walked the final five miles with the Special Tactics Memorial March Team. I attended the end of the walk ceremony. I toured the Special Tactics Squadron 23 (STS-23) Facility. I met Tim Davis’s mother (www.walkforthefallen.com). I shook 100s of hands, met a lot of people, shared many smiles and hugs and had some deep conversation about life, loss, and change. Without fail, every single event had three things in common: C, R, & G – Courtesy, Respect, & Gratitude.

Part of that does indeed come with military training and the lifestyle, but I believe it also comes from just being a good person. I have met some of the most highly trained and skilled Operators on the entire planet. They do the things we very seldom hear about that allow us to enjoy the freedoms we do in this great country. Even with the abilities and what the Operators are capable of doing, you still get courtesy, respect and gratitude, and that is from the Generals all the way down to the trainees new to the program. You get a handshake, you get a thank you, you get a smile, and hugs. Some I’ve known. Some I just met on the walk and some I just met for the first time and still there is courtesy, respect, and gratitude.

It’s not all about conflict, war, or military action like some would like us to believe. It is also about doing the right thing and helping people in need. Take a look at this little article about Chief Tony Travis. Yes Tony is one of the people I met on the walk.

This adventure is far from over, but I am 100% certain I will continue experiencing Courtesy, Respect, & Gratitude. It likes the Law of Attraction states – we attract to our lives what we give attention to. You see where my attention is – C, R, & G.

To my existing friends in the Air Force, the new friends I’ve made to date, and the ones I will meet today at the Combat Control Reunion, thank you for all you do, and thank you for allowing me to be a part of it all.
