You Decide

Working With What You Have

Nick Vujicic, www.lifewithoutlimbs.org, was the speaker at Lakewood this morning.  Nick is a little different than most of us, but you would not know it to hear him speak.  He was born with no arms or legs.  He has a bit of an appendage on his left side that functions as a foot and hand.  His associate carried him up to the stage and placed him on a 4x8 area where he spoke.  He had his Bible and a cell phone, which he appeared to be using as his timer.  Nick spoke for about 40 minutes.

He touched on what it was like growing up with no limbs, about his bout with depression, and an attempted suicide.  He did not labor away about the shortcomings of no limbs.  He told a rather humorous story of a child looking him up and down a few times then commenting, “Well at least you have a head.”  He also spoke of being able to type 43 words a minute with his appendage.  He does not see having no arms or legs as a limitation.  He chooses to see it as the way he is physically, but his condition certainly does not define who Nick is as the person.  He has made the conscious decision to work with what he has been given rather than spend his life being bitter and angry about what he does not have, no arms, or legs.  He is a prime example of what today’s title says, working with what you have.  In fact, his new book is called Life Without Limits: Inspiration for a Ridiculously Good Life.  It gets back to two words in my opinion, choice, and perspective.  Nick chooses to have a positive outlook on life and use the gifts the good Lord has given him to help others.

Are you working with what you have or concentrating on what you do not have?  That is a question only you can answer.
