DND
Do Not Disturb (DND) is one of the most underused yet valuable buttons on a phone in my opinion. DND should be used in meetings, when you are trying to focus on a subject or under a deadline. Why? DND helps you stay focused on the meeting, subject or deadline rather than be distracted by a phone call. We all get so caught up in being afraid we will miss a call, if we use DND. Uhhhhhh, isn’t that the reason you have voicemail? Maybe I just have an extreme grasp of the obvious.
We all need some DND time. We need time to focus on us and what we’re doing rather than trying to address and take care of everything for everyone else. Think about it like this for a minute. You are under a deadline to get a report finished. You take a call from me, then Johnny, then Buddy then who knows who else. A few minutes here and there and at least an hour is gone plus the fact that you have to refocus on the task at hand after each call. Short of an emergency, can’t most every call wait till you finish your current task?
DND is actually a good tool as it helps you better manage your time in the job and life overall. Take a DND break today. I’m gonna check to make sure. You BETTER not answer that phone when I call. :)
