What’s The Difference
I have no special quality or interest. Some consider me average, regular, or customary. I run around with my synonyms - traditional, indifferent, and commonplace. What am I? I am the definition of ordinary. I’m pretty sure you know my brother too. He is outside the ordinary, beyond the established, and far from commonplace. He runs around with exceptional, outstanding, and incredible. You know him as extraordinary. What’s the difference between us? In my opinion, the difference between ordinary and extraordinary comes down to perception and experiences.
I honestly do not see much about life that is ordinary in my world. Yesterday, I had lunch with Lauren, Teri, and Tristen at the Aquarium downtown. I have been there many times, but this was the first time to eat a meal and actually experience the atmosphere, and who better to do it with than Tristen? Yesterday was an extraordinary event.
I strive to be different and experience things in different ways all the time. Even though I go to Starbucks a lot for coffee, each time is far from ordinary. Case in point, Bob is walking around playing Christmas songs on the fiddle, and it is Mustache Monday. Mustache Monday is where all the employees draw mustaches on with grease pencils. They started it a few weeks ago just to be different or “out of the ordinary.”
So, I ask the question again. What’s the difference? Who gets to define ordinary and extraordinary? You do! Every second of your life is extraordinary.
