Press The Button

Shuffle

I have 3,600 songs on the player yet it seems I play same six to ten artists each day.  As I hopped on the bike at the gym this morning, I was looking down at the iPod to see, which songs I would grove to today.  Rather than choose one of my normal playlists, I decided to let the iPod choose for me so I hit Shuffle.  The first song was a new one from Jason Aldean followed by some Zydeco then old Mel Tillis then Cher’s Half Breed.  Over the next hour, I heard some songs I forgot were even on the iPod.  The Shuffle worked.  I was listening to different things that I would normally blow right by in favor of my routine songs.

After I finished my workout, I was thinking more how daily life is sometimes like the iPod in that we do the same things the same way every single day.  How many times have you thought or felt you are in a rut? You ask someone how they are doing or what’s new and you get “You know…the same old same old…”  Well, if you think you are in a rut, then you are.  Heck, I know people that go to the same places to eat on the same day each week and get the same dang thing.

If you are feeling a little rutty, hit your internal Shuffle button.  What is the worst thing that could happen you have a new experience?
