Common Sense – Not So Common
This one really made me shake my head. I saw a headline online about 100+ people camping out overnight at a local chicken joint for the chance to “win” one free meal a week for a year. Hmmm! Let me see if I understand this correctly. I’m gonna drive to a place to wait in a line in temperatures in the mid 20’s for a chance to “win” a $5 a week meal? Do I understand this correctly? Really, can someone help me understand spending maybe $6 on gas, risking contracting pneumonia, and possibly ending up in the hospital to the tune of a few $1,000 all for a $5 sammich? You call that a win? What the heck is wrong with people these days? Oh wait, these would be the same people that would sue the eatery if they get sick saying it was the fault of the business for having the contest that caused them to stand in the cold.
I know fire is hot. I know ice is cold. I know standing in front of a moving vehicle will probably get me killed. Is that common sense or do I just have an extreme grasp of the obvious? As I say with great regularity, “Thank God Breathing Is Involuntary.” And, yes I still have to explain that to some.
